Find what the network cannot tell you

Matrix is an autonomous, non-intrusive solution for identifying infiltration and inflow directly in the sewer network.

Floating sensors travel with the wastewater, recording temperature differences and movement patterns through the pipe system. The data is combined with GIS information and advanced analysis to identify and localise likely infiltration points — without permanent instrumentation, cabling or excavation.

When the data runs out

The closer we get to the source of infiltration and inflow, the less data is typically available.

At pipe level, permanent sensors and continuous measurements are rare. Traditional investigation can therefore require extensive fieldwork to narrow down where unwanted water enters the system.

Matrix takes another approach.

Autonomous sensors move through the existing sewer network and collect data from inside the pipe as they travel. This creates the information needed to investigate parts of the system where operational data would otherwise end.

From measurement to location

Changes in temperature can reveal where external water enters the wastewater stream. Matrix records these changes together with the movement of the sensor through the network.

Movement data is combined with GIS information to reconstruct the sensor route, while temperature anomalies are analysed to identify likely infiltration points.

The results are presented as geographical heat maps, transforming measurements from inside the pipe into locations that can be investigated and acted on.
