Matrix
Infiltration and inflow (I/I) reduce wastewater network capacity and increase hydraulic loads on treatment plants. Yet understanding what happens inside the pipe network remains difficult when measurements are limited.
Guard Matrix uses autonomous floating sensors to measure water flow and capture temperature variations and motion patterns directly inside wastewater pipes. Combined with GIS analysis, the data helps identify likely infiltration points and provides new insight into hydraulic conditions—without permanent instrumentation, cabling or excavation.
From uncertainty to targeted investigation
Knowing that unwanted water is entering the network is one thing. Knowing where to investigate is another.
Matrix transforms in-pipe measurements into geographically referenced insights, helping operators narrow down problem areas and prioritise further action.
Measuring what happens inside the network
Autonomous floating sensors travel through the wastewater system, measuring water flow while recording temperature variations and motion patterns.
Using inertial motion tracking (IMU) and GIS network data, Matrix estimates the sensor's route through the pipes, linking measurements to locations even where GPS is unavailable.
From measurements to a clearer network picture
Changes in temperature and flow can reveal how hydraulic conditions vary throughout the network and help identify sections where unwanted water may enter.
Matrix combines these measurements with reconstructed sensor routes and presents the results through GIS-based visualisations, supporting targeted investigations and better prioritisation of rehabilitation measures.
